About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Boston Field Office, Trade Division, Located in Boston, MA.

What You'll Do

  • Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to manage one or more national programs in order to help to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering/exiting the U.S.
  • Apply for this exciting opportunity to direct programs that strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security.
  • This position starts at a salary of $123,885.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to$161,053.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
  • In this CBP Officer (Cargo Manager) position, you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S.
  • The duties you will be performing include: Reviewing and analyzing carriers', importers', and exporters' manifests, permits, certificates, entries, invoices, and associated documents to determine the admissibility of merchandise or cargo, and levels of risk for possible violations of laws and threats to national security, economic and agricultural interests.
  • Providing oversight and guidance to port personnel on the analysis of a wide variety of commercial documents such as invoices, bill of lading and packing slips in order to identify anomalies attendant to the importation and exportation of commercial merchandise under CBP jurisdiction.
  • Managing, coordinating, and ensuring the identification of, targets, controls and examination of passengers and cargo leaving the United States in order to ensure that the mission objectives of interdicting terrorists and instruments of terror and compliance with export requirements are met.
  • Applying a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of program related legislation and regulations and an extensive knowledge of inspection and investigative techniques including the preparation of reports that substantiate findings and serve as a basis for legal action.
  • Not-to-Exceed (NTE): To meet agency needs, this position will be filled on a temporary basis not-to-exceed (NTE) 1 year(s), with possible extension(s) for an additional 1 to 2 year(s).
  • You may be returned, at any time, to the position from which temporarily promoted, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay, and that the return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. §§ 351, 432, 752, and 771.
  • If going from a LEO Covered Position to a Secondary CBPO Special Retirement Covered (SRC) Position: Please be advised that when you enter on duty in this Secondary CBPO SRC position you will no longer be covered under the Special Retirement System for Law Enforcement Officers, but will only be covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S.
  • Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess the Ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle.
  • A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
