About the Role

This position is part of the Turtle Mountain Elem School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Assistant Principal works under the direct supervision of the Principal and will be assigned responsibilities for coordination and supervision of complete sections of the school organization. This position requires YEAR LONG CONTRACT per Public Law 95-561 and will require contract renewal on an annual basis. This position IS NOT suitable for telework or remote consideration under any circumstances.

What You'll Do

  • As Assistant Principal- CE-1710, works under the direct supervision of the Principal and will be assigned responsibilities for coordination and supervision of complete sections of the school organization and will assume the duties of the Principal during the Principal's absence or at other times as instructed.
  • Typical work assignments may include the following: The Incumbent is responsible for supervising and administering all/specific programs and functions of the school, i.e., instruction, food services, student transportation, recreational activities, residential, and special programs.
  • With the advice of and assistance of staff, the incumbent is responsible for the enrollment and grade placement of pupils, internal organization and scheduling of pupils and teachers, aides and service personnel, arrangement of duty schedules and workweek to meet regular and special situations.
  • Conducts continuing evaluation and appraisal of personnel, programs and pupils using appropriate measurement instruments as well as empirical data as a basis or justifying educational programs and planning and measuring effective measuring effectiveness of current programs.
  • Assigns, supervises and directs the work of professional and non/para-professional employees which may include scheduling and coordinating work assignments, relaying changes in operational/regulatory policies, providing training opportunities, participate in the selection of employees, oversee performance management of staff, approving leave, and addressing disciplinary concerns.
  • Resolves complaints of staff, students, parents, and other clients at the lowest level.
  • Refers to next level when appropriate.
  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining good relationships based on common understanding among teachers, parents, and pupils.
  • Within the limits of the annual budget allocations for the school and combined special projects, is responsible for being involved and aware of expenditures for school operations.
  • Is responsible for participating in the development, proposal writing, implementation and evaluation of programs and projects to take maximum advantage of supplementary funding.

Requirements

  • Citizenship is required.

  • A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
  • Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Incumbent may be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Assistant Principal (or equivalent Administrator) licensure/certification in the State where the position is located.
  • This position is EXEMPT from Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
  • Probationary period is three full contract terms during which your fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
  • Initial appointments under Public Law 95-561 do not confer competitive nor career status.
  • Incumbent will be required to file an annual financial disclosure statement (OGE-450).
  • To meet the education requirements, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts.
  • Officials and unofficial transcripts (photocopy or original) may be submitted.
