The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties, responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operations of their designated units. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
What You'll Do
- →The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) demonstrates the fundamental knowledge of the unit and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in process improvement initiatives.
- →The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →The ANM seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- →They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- →They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
- →The ANM participates in the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
- →Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- →Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
- →The ANM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).
- →The ANM role is divided equally between clinical practice and leadership oversight.
- →Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
