About the Role
This Assistant Chief Nurse position is located in Acute Care and Nursing Operations Service at the West Haven Campus. This position is a full time position at 40 hours per week.
What You'll Do
- →Included but not limited to: The Assistant Chief Nurse executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes.
- →Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
- →Ensures administrative support and guidance while providing oversight for the delivery of nursing care and management of nursing personnel and clinical resources.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- →Provides coordination and accountability for all regulatory and environmental surveys and adheres to mandatory response timelines.
- →Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
- →Notifications: This position is NOT a Bargaining Unit position.
- →Selectee may be required to work at any VA Connecticut Healthcare System campus, as needed.
- →Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action).
- →The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).
- →In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
- →This position is in the Excepted Service.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓May be subject to satisfactory completion of our credentialing process.
