About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) Primary Care Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for promoting quality nursing care for Veterans in a primary care setting.
  • The selected APRN will function independently, as guided by their scope of practice commensurate with training, demonstrated expertise, and licensure.
  • The APRN will work collaboratively with other health care providers to manage patient care needs and serves as a liaison throughout the continuum of care between clinical and administrative services and other health care services within the VA and community agencies.
  • Duties and responsibilities of the APRN include, but are not limited to the following: Consults with the rating official for annual proficiency reviews for Nurse Practitioners Collaborates with clinical supervisor and individual APRN in the assessment of clinical performance consistent with delineated clinical privileges and nursing qualification standards.
  • Develops and utilizes performance-based needs assessments to promote individualized development and competency for individual APRN's.
  • Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
  • Consults with the rating official for annual proficiency reviews.
  • Collaborates with clinical supervisor and individual APRN in the assessment of clinical performance consistent with delineated clinical privileges and nursing qualification standards.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services.
  • Provides education to patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
