About the Role

This position is located within the VA Salt Lake City Health Care system. The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative functions that include human resources management, budget, and finance, contract management and program analysis, office support services, and logistics in matters to support the Environmental Management Service.

What You'll Do

  • Duties include but are not limited too: Serves as the principal administrative advisor to the Chief, Environmental Management Service (EMS), and provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to all EMS programs including Healthcare Sanitation, Interior Design, Textile Care, Laundry, Recycling, and Waste Management operations.
  • Participates in collaboration with the Service Chief in both long- and short-range administrative and resource planning by coordinating the operational and administrative needs of the service.
  • Assists in managing and coordinating all administrative aspects of the service and participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that affect service operations and customer support activities.
  • Conducts studies, surveys, and analyses and submits or validates reports pertaining to performance measures, workload, and service efficiency.
  • Monitors and evaluates system performance, identifies deficiencies, and assists leadership in developing corrective actions.
  • Reviews, revises, and drafts procedural guidance to ensure compliance with National, VISN, and local policies as well as accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to VA/VISN surveys, reports, and data validation requests related to service operations Provides personnel management and administrative advisory services to the Chief, EMS, and section supervisors on matters related to staffing, workforce planning, and personnel administration.
  • Assists management with projecting staffing needs, preparing recruitment documentation, writing and updating position descriptions, developing job analyses, preparing performance plans and appraisals, identifying training needs, and processing related personnel actions.
  • Coordinates personnel actions with Human Resources offices and monitors progress through completion.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets incoming personnel requests and recommends appropriate actions or alternatives based on knowledge of internal operations, agency personnel policies, budgetary constraints, and workload priorities.
  • Alerts management to issues requiring HR intervention and provides guidance on resolving complex personnel matters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to prepare reports and briefings, advise leadership, coordinate with stakeholders, and influence acceptance of recommendations.
  • Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
  • Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
