About the Role

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent is a member of the Facilities Department at a Bureau of Prisons'(BOP) federal correctional facility.
  • As supervisor over a welding shop, the incumbent is responsible for the speciality field of welding, through the supervision of inmate workers.
  • The welding shop is involved in the design, manufacture and repair of security devices, metal parts, and equipment.
  • Must supervise and train inmate workers in various phases associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures, grounds, fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of skills within the welding specialty, and other related trades.
  • Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.
  • The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
