These positions are in the California Water Science Center in the Projects Section. Filling one vacancy in each of the following locations: Sacramento, CA (1 vacancy). West Sacramento, CA (2 vacancies). The official worksite for the selectee is the duty station identified in this vacancy announcement.
What You'll Do
- →As a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician within the California Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Supervise and mentor staff: Plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises field and office activities; mentors employees and fosters a high-performing team; oversees employee career development, performance management, and promotion actions.
- →Oversee hydrologic instrumentation and data collection: Manages installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex hydrologic instrumentation and telemetry systems; ensures compliance with field protocols and safety requirements; oversees quality assurance testing and validation of hydrologic records; prepares technical summaries and supporting materials for publications.
- →Provide technical leadership and training: Serves as a technical authority in specialized hydrologic areas; provides advanced training to staff on field methods, instrumentation, data processing, and safety procedures; develops operational procedures and technical documentation; represents USGS in interactions with cooperators, the public, and media.
- →Manage hydrologic projects: Develops project budgets and labor estimates; monitors milestones, schedules, and critical path tasks; coordinates staffing, training, procurement, instrumentation planning, and operational support for hydrologic projects; maintains cooperative partnerships with Federal, State, and local agencies.
- →Promote scientific integrity and quality: Ensures compliance with the Bureau's Fundamental Science Practices; maintains high standards of scientific integrity and quality in all hydrologic data and publications; recognizes and corrects errors in calculations and prepares data for publication and distribution.
- →Ensure property and resource management: Oversees proper acquisition, use, accountability, and control of government-owned property; applies labor and employee relations laws and addresses employee concerns; implements corrective actions and conducts facility inspections.
- →Promotes workplace safety: Promotes safe work practices, identifies and mitigates hazards, reviews incidents, and implements corrective actions; ensures compliance with USGS safety policies, including use of PPE and boating safety requirements.
- →WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office conditions do not require special safety precautions; field conditions may include extreme heat or cold, rain or snow, possible aggressive wildlife encounters, and hazardous conditions such as ice or flooding, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals.
- →Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets.
Requirements

- ✓Selectee must provide a valid state driver's license & safe driving record.
- ✓Selectee subject to successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam.
- ✓Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
- ✓Pre-Employment Medical - Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
- ✓You will be required to operate a government-owned or leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties.
- ✓Applicants for this position must meet the following requirements: (1) possess a valid State license, and (2) possess a safe driving record.
- ✓If selected, you will be required to provide proof of a valid State license & a copy of your driving record.
- ✓Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment.
- ✓Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.
- ✓A background investigation will be required for this position.
- ✓Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
