About the Role

The Supervisory Healthcare Engineer (Deputy) is responsible for the professional Engineering programs such as Maintenance and Repair, Utility Plant Operations, Energy Management and Conservation Program, Safety, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, Green Environmental Management, Vehicle Fleet, Grounds, Capital Planning, and Construction Project Management section at the CAVHS Medical Center, including outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

What You'll Do

  • The Supervisory Healthcare Engineer (Deputy) supports and advances patient care by applying engineering and managerial skills to project management.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates, and manages the processes for Service Line programs, which include setting qualitative and quantitative standards.
  • Develops and provides the Executive Leadership Team and the clinical staff information on the methods, techniques, and procedures necessary to integrate the Engineering, Maintenance, Biomedical, Capital Management, and other Engineering programs into the mission of the Medical Center.
  • Oversees human resources management matters for the services, including development and implementation of succession and workforce plans.
  • This position manages human resource functions such as performance, training and development, hiring, and firing.
  • Support the VISN Capital and Energy Engineers in the administration of the programs.
  • Meets regularly with other Engineers from the VISN and VA Leadership from the Office of Capital Asset Management.
  • Provides for the budgeting and financial management for Engineering Service, which includes budget formulation, justification, and execution; financial management; and financial reporting.
  • Develops and implements the Medical Center's capital improvement program.
  • Identifies functional requirements for current and future programs inclusive of life-cycle costs.
  • Develops and implements the Medical Center's capital improvement program, to include: identifying additional space needs and renovations and establishing leases.
  • Coordinates and oversees scheduling and layout of operations, inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction and renovation managed by subordinate engineers and engineering technicians.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

  • Must be able to independently operate Government Vehicle.
  • Must provide clean driving record report from the DMV during the pre-employment process.
