These positions are located in the Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) Region offices. The employee serves as an Operations Supervisor and exercises direction over the activities of region staff to effectively promote, implement, and administer the pipeline safety program of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
What You'll Do
- →As a Supervisory General Engineer (Ops Supervisor), you will: Supervise the work of a team of region staff engineers (4-8) whose full performance level is GS-13 or higher who perform inspections and other program duties.
- →Perform the full range of first-line technical and administrative supervisory responsibilities.
- →Interpret and apply Federal regulations and monitoring requirements to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline systems of operators.
- →Lead on-site inspections and conducts investigations of pipeline facilities involved in major accidents or failures, including providing direction and coordination to OPS and/or state teams assigned to major pipeline accidents.
- →Develop and recommend to the Region Director initiatives and strategies for implementation at the region and national level to address identified pipeline safety and environmental problems.
- →The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced Senior General Engineer who is looking for challenging assignments.
- →As an Operations Supervisor for a Region, you will exercise direction over the activities of region staff to effectively promote, implement, and administer the pipeline safety program of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
Requirements

- ✓BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A background security investigation is required for all selected individuals.
- ✓Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of the security investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Failure to meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
- ✓DRUG TESTING: Varies by position.
- ✓Tentatively selected candidates are required to undergo urinalysis in accordance with DOT 3910.1D entitled "Drug and Alcohol-Free Departmental Workplace", which includes testing for marijuana.
- ✓Marijuana is legal in some states, however it's still illegal at the federal level.
- ✓Therefore, if selected for the position you will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test, you will also be subject to Random Drug Testing.
- ✓PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
