About the Role

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Office of Audit Services (OAS). This announcement is to fill two vacancies that may be located in any of the locations identified. The salary for this position will be adjusted based on the duty location. View the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) 2026 General Schedule (GS) Locality Pay Tables. Resumes must be no more than 2-pages in length.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent of this position serves as the Regional Inspector General for Audit.
  • Major duties for this position include but are not limited to: Plans, manages, and coordinates the functions of the Regional Audit Office and Field Office(s).
  • Participates as a key management audit official in the development of the IG work plan.
  • Determines projects or audits to be initiated or curtailed; how much resources to devote to particular projects; the timing for initiating or curtailing particular projects.
  • Implements the plan to improve the quality and timelines of single audits which include State and local agencies, colleges and universities, and block grant audits, that are performed by Certified Public Accountants, State Auditors, and other non-Federal auditors.
  • Maintaining liaison with officials of other government agencies in matters such as coordinating audits, exchanging information on technical developments in the accounting and auditing fields, and examining areas in which agencies could develop cross-servicing agreements.
  • Develops proposed Department-wide policies, procedures, standards, criteria, and audit guides.
  • Directs the activities of the staff through subordinate supervisors, some of whom may be geographically located away from the regional office.
