About the Role
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.
What You'll Do
- →This position is in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Audits.
- →The OIG conducts and supervises independent audits, investigations, and inspections of the programs and operations of DHS, and recommends ways for DHS to carry out its responsibilities in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner possible.
- →The OIG also seeks to deter, identify, and address fraud, abuse, mismanagement, and waste of taxpayer funds invested in Homeland Security.
- →The Office of Audits oversees financial and performance audits, as well as attestation engagements.
- →These audits cover multiple functional and program areas, such as financial statements, cyber security, acquisitions, grants, critical infrastructure, disasters, law enforcement and terrorism, immigration, and transportation security.
- →Auditors examine DHS programs or activities in a formalized, detailed and in-depth way.
- →This position serves as the Director of Audit Liaison and Analysis which reports to the Deputy Inspector General for Audits.
- →Typical assignments include: Representing Office of Audits for internal and external coordination of congressional requests, front office tasks, and all external audit coordination.
- →Serving as a technical expert providing advice on a wide variety of program audit management and coordination functions and evaluating the content of new or modified legislation for projected impact upon agency's programs or resources.
- →Serving as a liaison with DHS OIG officials on key matters to include providing information, participating in, or initiating meetings, resolving problems, and expressing viewpoints on issues.
- →Serving as the lead for developing and implementing both Risk Management and Strategies Management practices within Office of Audits.
- →Evaluating on going functions to ensure that the organization meets its stated goals, identifying improvements to operational efficiencies, and overseeing implementation of solutions to problems.
- →Monitoring and evaluating teams' progress toward meeting goals and timeframes, proactively adjusting objectives, work plans, schedules, and commitment of resources as necessary to achieve successful outcomes.
- →Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- ✓All applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement: Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
- ✓Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States.
- ✓For example, specific courses accepted for college-level credit by an accredited U.S. college or university, or foreign education evaluated by an organization recognized for accreditation by the Department of Education as education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. college or university.
