About the Role
The Sleep Medicine Physician position is located at 2300 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC. This role involves comprehensive evaluation and management of patients presenting with sleep disorders, including conducting clinical visits and providing care through telehealth modalities (video visits to home, video visits between facilities, and asynchronous care). Responsibilities include interpreting polysomnograms, multiple sleep latency tests, and home sleep studies.
What You'll Do
- →The Sleep Medicine Physician is assigned to the Sleep Medicine Program within the Medicine Service and reports to the Director of the Sleep Medicine Service (or designee).
- →The Sleep Medicine program provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for sleep disorders affecting Veterans.
- →Functions or Scopes of Practice Clinical Care: Provides outpatient and/or inpatient consultation for sleep-related disorders.
- →Performs comprehensive sleep evaluations including history, physical examination, and interpretation of diagnostic testing.
- →Diagnoses and manages disorders such as: Obstructive Sleep Apnea Central Sleep Apnea Insomnia Restless Legs Syndrome Narcolepsy Circadian rhythm disorders and parasomnias.
- →Interprets diagnostic sleep studies including: Polysomnography Home sleep apnea testing Positive airway pressure titration studies.
- →Prescribes and manages treatment modalities including positive airway pressure therapy, pharmacologic therapy, and behavioral interventions.
- →Sleep Laboratory Oversight Provides medical oversight of the sleep laboratory and diagnostic testing services.
- →Ensures sleep testing protocols comply with standards established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and applicable VA policy.
- →Reviews and interprets sleep studies and ensures timely communication of results.
- →Interdisciplinary Collaboration Collaborates with pulmonary medicine, neurology, psychiatry, primary care, and behavioral health teams.
- →Coordinates care for Veterans with complex comorbid conditions including: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Obesity Heart Failure Quality and Performance Improvement Participates in quality improvement activities related to sleep medicine and patient safety.
- →Supports compliance with national VA performance metrics and accreditation standards.
- →Participates in peer review, performance improvement initiatives, and program development.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
