About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The Section Chief of Primary Care in Goldsboro care ensures the continuation of comprehensive health care for veteran patients.
  • The scope of care is responsible for Primary Care services, but must also provide indirect oversight for all medical, surgical, and ancillary services provided at this facility.
  • The incumbent directs daily operations to ensure smooth flow and transition of care for the patient.
  • Includes direct supervision of clinical operations to include all Primary Care providers in support of assigned location in the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System.
  • They will work collaboratively with Nursing, pharmacy, and specialty services and GPM leadership to ensure efficient and high-quality care.
  • Services provided by staff are conducted via multiple modalities, including virtual and in-person care.
  • As the PC Section Chief, this individual is responsible for primary care providers, providing services and programming.
  • Clinical: To function effectively in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities, the incumbent, must possess a broad knowledge of clinical medicine, basic medical sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, and operations.
  • The incumbent needs to have graduated from an accredited PA program and be able to perform and teach all of the services required in the practice of Primary Care Medicine as listed below at a minimum: Medical significance, interpretation, and correlation of patient testing data.
  • Anatomic Pathology - able to interpret and explain anatomic pathology results as appropriate.
  • Consultations - Able to provide consultations for patients, instructing physicians as appropriate.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to Veterans in the Primary Care team setting; outpatient include both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans.
  • Record/document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decision, plan of care, ongoing management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic test and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter; recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS) and will be completed on the day of the encounter.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
