About the Role

This position is with the Invasive Plant Management Teams located in the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate, Interior Region 1, North Atlantic Appalachian Regional Office. This is a TEMPORARY seasonal appointment not to exceed 1039 hours work in a service year. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 05/29/2026 whichever comes first. What You'll Do

  • As a Biological Science Technician (Plants) GS-0404-05 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Implements established natural resource management projects.
  • Follows instructions and standardized procedures, collects and organizes field data.
  • Ensures adequate quality control of data collected.
  • Performs routine and recurring testing of collected samples.
  • Records all data collected and provides preliminary assessment and classification of the information.
  • Works with crews managing invasive plants and restoring native vegetation.
  • Makes field observations of natural resource conditions.
  • Evaluates observed conditions and problems and makes preliminary determinations on the cause of problems noted.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • Government housing may be available.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 15 nights per month.
  • You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • State pesticide application certification/license is required.
