This position is located in the Museum Program at the Southeast Archeological Center, as part of the Southeast Regional Office's Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Division. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Southeast Archeological Center is April to November, but the season may be extended or reduced due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: July 2026
What You'll Do
- →The Southeast Archeological Center (SEAC) is responsible for archeological research and cultural resource management activities relating to 70 National Park Service areas in nine southeastern states, Puerto Rico, and the U.
- →Virgin Islands.
- →This position is in the SEAC Museum Program.
- →The incumbent's responsibilities relate to one of the Service's most extensive archeological collections.
- →The collections consist of more than 3,000 individual accessions, including multi-million item holdings of artifacts and several hundred thousand supporting documents.
- →The primary duties of this position are to 1) identify and analyze archeological objects from sites of all time periods and throughout the Southeast U.S.; and 2) catalog resulting data into the designated NPS catalog program using established NPS procedures.
- →Additional primary duties include rehousing collections, labeling and cleaning artifacts, identifying conservation needs, and maintaining the preservation of archeological objects.
- →Tasks also include maintaining and organizing manual and automated curatorial records and performing research for catalog records and other purposes as assigned.
- →The position assists with the following tasks: museum maintenance and housekeeping schedules; museum inventory; scheduled cleaning of museum collections storage; museum environmental monitoring; gathering data; and preparing various museum records for archeological collections.
- →The Southeast Archeological Center is one of only three archeological centers within the National Park Service, it is located in Tallahassee, Florida.

- →Winters are usually mild and summers are hot and humid.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- ✓Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month.
- ✓You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- ✓You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
- ✓You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
- ✓You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- ✓You must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- ✓You must have outdoor safety and survival skills.
