About the Role

The Registered Nurse Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of care throughout the peri anesthesia continuum to include the Pre anesthesia Phase, Post anesthesia Phase I, Post anesthesia Phase II, and extended care from sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures.

What You'll Do

  • Start your VA career here Aurora Chamber of Commerce Duties: Demonstrates knowledge of physiology related to anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
  • Assesses and prepares patients for procedures, identifying any contraindications for anesthesia and/or surgical intervention.
  • Provides comprehensive post-sedation and post-operative assessment, including:- Cardiovascular and respiratory status and airway management needs- Neurological assessments, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status.
  • Implements timely and appropriate interventions to maintain or restore physiological stability.
  • Maintains current knowledge of American Society of Peri Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) Standards.
  • Adheres to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives and service-level standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Completes timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) across all phases of care.
  • Documents broad and complex outcomes at the program or service level, contributing to organizational-wide quality initiatives.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates leadership that positively impacts care for groups of patients.
  • Provides peers with constructive feedback and supports professional growth through knowledge sharing.
  • Fosters a safe, supportive environment conducive to professional development.
  • Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based practice changes affecting individuals, groups, and populations.
  • May be required to participate in on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
