About the Role
The Inpatient Med-Surg Float Pool RN is a Registered Nurse (RN) that supports multiple acute care units with patient populations including Oncology, Acute and Chronic Complex Medical conditions, and Acute Surgical Postoperative Care. This position requires skilled nursing care for patients requiring close 24/7 observation, continuous cardiac monitoring, intermittent/continuous cardiac IV medications, close respiratory monitoring and specialized procedures
What You'll Do
- →The Med-Surg Float Pool RN must have sound clinical judgment and ability to adapt to changing work environment and flexibility with patient care assignments.
- →Care is ongoing and encompasses varying states of recuperation from diagnosis to treatment and promotion of health, recovery, or a peaceful death.
- →Major Duties include but are not limited to: Flexibility in patient care assignment and float to different med/surg areas.
- →Care for a boarding patients in temporary bed locations.
- →Interpretation of Continuous Telemetry monitored patients.
- →Diabetic management and teaching.
- →Management of gastric, intestinal, and/or percutaneous drainage and feeding tubes.
- →Administration and monitoring of medications.
- →Compliance with various Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines.
- →Advanced Vascular Access Care and Maintenance.
- →Facilitation of Homecare referrals and rehabilitation recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs.
- →Recognizes and supports Suicide Prevention initiatives.
- →Collaborates with multiple disciplines including Social Work, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Laboratory.
- →Facilitates Patient and caregiver education and support.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
