About the Role
The Epilepsy Centers of Excellence (ECOE) Nurse Coordinator provides coordinated care and case management for patients with epilepsy and neurological conditions, supporting complex needs, managing communication, and ensuring timely follow-up of testing and imaging. This ECOE-funded role develops specialized knowledge in epilepsy care and supports the clinical, educational, and academic priorities of the local Epilepsy Center of Excellence.
What You'll Do
- →The Nurse Coordinator works closely with ECOE providers and Neurology staff to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered care while maintaining flexibility to support cross-coverage within Neurology services.
- →Duties will include but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive case management for Epilepsy and Neurology patients referred to specialty care within VISN 20.
- →Support continuity of care for individuals with complex, lifelong neurological conditions.
- →Triage Epilepsy/Neurology related phone calls and secure messages, resolving issues or routing to providers.
- →Manage patient communication through phone, secure messaging, electronic alerts, and digital tracking tools.
- →Provide patient and family education on neurological conditions, medications, testing, and treatment plans.
- →Deliver additional education during or after seizure clinic visits and document all encounters.
- →Coordinate seizure clinic and telehealth schedules; collaborate with MSAs and clinic leadership.
- →Arrange lodging and beneficiary travel; obtain and track outside medical records for timely EMR upload.
- →Schedule and coordinate Long-Term Video EEG Monitoring (LTM) admissions and pre-admission planning.
- →Support inpatient teams with bed requests, EEG orders, admission-day assessments, and discharge coordination.
- →Track and communicate specialty-ordered testing and imaging results following established policies.
- →Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, Referral Care, Community Care, Social Work, Travel, and Lodging for seamless care.
- →Provide up-to-date, evidence-based nursing education to facility care areas to enhance effective and efficient care for patients with neurological and epilepsy-related conditions.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
