About the Role
The Domiciliary Mental Health (MH) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and leading the provision of competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. The domiciliary RN will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.
What You'll Do
- →The domiciliary RN provides comprehensive nursing care to veterans in a residential rehabilitation setting for substance use and mental health disorders.
- →Key responsibilities include conducting admission and ongoing assessments, administering and monitoring medications, and educating patients on recovery strategies and medication management.
- →The RN facilitates therapeutic groups, participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to coordinate individualized care plans, and ensures accurate documentation in compliance with program standards.
- →Additionally, the role involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, performing crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed, and supporting behavioral health goals through patient-centered care.
- →The domiciliary RN facilitates shift report, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
- →The RN uses therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, utilize recovery-oriented language, and provides oversight of the patient safe medication management program.
- →The domiciliary RN actively participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, patient safety and environment of care rounds, and responds to psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies as directed.
- →The domiciliary RN reports safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, risk screens, nursing plan of care, patient safety rounds, and environment of care rounds according to facility policy.
- →The domiciliary RN maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
- →He/she fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
