About the Role

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (1-5 yrs) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) in this role is located in the Community Living Center (CLC) of the CHYVAMC.
  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • The incumbent follows provider orders and is competent to start and maintain Intravenous therapy.
  • As Charge Nurse, maintains the daily flow of the unit, creates and issues daily reports, verifies orders, communicates with providers, families and visitors.
  • The RN is expected to assign and supervise the work of licensed practical nurses and certified nurse aides to ensure the flow of the unit meets the clinical requirements and is performed safely to meet quality standards.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Leads professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to improve evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes for an identified patient population and/or specialized areas within immediate practice setting.
  • Improves Veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues such as coordination of care, timeliness or process issues, common themes of dissatisfaction, or environment of care concerns for the immediate practice setting.
  • Improves Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction and/or safety for the immediate practice setting.
  • Serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, improving outcomes for the immediate practice setting.
  • Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes for the immediate practice setting.
  • Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communications and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting.
  • Expands knowledge base and practice evaluation through mentoring, precepting, and/or teaching to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting.
  • Leads the implementation of high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care delivered and improve patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
