About the Role
The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse - Assistant Nurse Manager for our Medical Surgical department.
What You'll Do
- →The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing daily operations of the assigned nursing unit, fostering team development, and promoting adherence to clinical practice standards.
- →This role blends clinical expertise with emerging leadership responsibilities, serving as a vital link between staff and leadership.
- →The ANM participates in care delivery by applying the nursing process, ensuring patient-centered, age-appropriate care, and coordinating efforts that enhance patient education, self-management, and overall satisfaction.
- →The position also emphasizes strong judgment, interpersonal communication, and collaboration across the interdisciplinary team to support high-quality, safe, and efficient care.
- →In partnership with the Nurse Manager, the ANM contributes to staff orientation, training, performance input, and professional development while modeling professionalism and evidence-based practice.
- →The role helps identify and remove barriers to care, supports innovative process improvements, and participates in organizational planning and regulatory compliance activities.
- →The ANM promotes a positive, accountable work environment, advances care delivery models that are equitable and cost-effective, and begins engaging in professional organizations to strengthen leadership growth and readiness for future management responsibilities.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
