About the Role

The Registered Nurse-Assistant Nurse Manager (Emergency Department) functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

What You'll Do

  • The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operation of their designated units.
  • They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed.
  • The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance.
  • They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team other duties include but not limited to the following: Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communications and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting.
  • Enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
  • Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
  • Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
  • Improves Veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues such as coordination of care, timeliness or process issues, common themes of dissatisfaction, or environment of care concerns for the immediate practice setting.
  • Leads initiatives for expanding best techniques to identify and apply patient preferences to shared care delivery decisions in the immediate practice settings.
  • Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.
  • Promote an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organizations vision and mission.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
