About the Role

The Ambulatory Care Specialty Clinics Registered Nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and supportive to or restorative of life and well-being.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties/functions include, but are not limited to: The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN monitors the use and maintenance of equipment, supply and use of stock and supplies, as well as environmental conditions and services.
  • The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN is responsible for learning to assess and triage of patients, the collection, analyzing and synthesizing of data and implementing evidence-based changes to practice based on data results.
  • He/she establishes relevant reporting priorities as applicable to the role and establishes priorities for unit-based quality/performance improvement activities, while promoting a culture of comprising evidence-based practices.
  • He/she is ultimately involved in the evaluation, redesign, and implementation of unit-based/facility-wide/health service policies and protocols when applicable.
  • The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN participates in unit and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing standards of practice and patient care.
  • He/she has an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurses clinical experiences as well as orienting new Ambulatory Specialty Clinics Registered Nurse.
  • The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN position is proficient in the practice in delivering and improving holistic care through collaboration strategies with others to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients assigned.
  • He/she works in partnership with an assigned panel of patients and team members for effective disease and chronic care management.
  • The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN is responsible for collaborating with services internal and external to the VA to facilitate care transition in order to effectively meet the patients' needs.
  • The Ambulatory Specialty Clinics RN provides evidenced-based patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness based on the patient's goals.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
