About the Role

The VA North Texas Health Care System is currently seeking a Podiatrist (Chief, Spinal Cord Injury Service). The Chief will provide leadership and collaboration with the overall operations of the Service both clinically and administratively. Recruitment or Relocation Incentive May be Authorized for highly qualified individual. Education Debt Reduction Program is authorized.

What You'll Do

  • This is an Open Continuous Announcement & will remain open until May 25, 2027, or until all positions are filled.

  • The Spinal Cord Injury Service provides comprehensive rehabilitation services along a continuum of care from ambulatory, acute, to long term care in the local community or VA Community Living Center (CLC).
  • Spinal Cord Injury services are provided by interdisciplinary teams of rehabilitation professionals that may include, but are not limited to physicians, residency physicians, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, kinesiotherapists, pharmacists, nurses and medical students.
  • Services may be provided in an individual, group, or telehealth setting.
  • Telehealth services are provided to satellite VA and VA contract clinics.
  • Spinal Service collaborates with the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Unit which also provides acute medical and rehabilitation care.
  • The Spinal Cord Injury PM&R residents are affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (UTSW), Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
  • The Paralyzed Veterans of America is an active stakeholder in the operational aspects of Spinal Cord Injury Services.
  • The Chief of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is expected to remain privileged and practicing in his/her major specialty field.

Requirements

  • All qualified candidates encouraged to apply.

  • Citizens but non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
