About the Role

The Section Chief - Supervisory/Lead Physician is directly accountable to the Chief of Primary Care. The Section Chief will spend 85% of time performing as clinician performing compensation and pension disability, military environmental exposure, environmental registry, employee health examinations and 15% of time functioning in an administrative capacity for Compensation and Pension and Environmental Exposures Exams Programs and Employee Occupational Health.

  • The Section Chief will be responsible for completing as well as assisting, mentoring staff on complex Compensation and Pension and Environmental Exposures and Employee and Occupational Health exams and will be responsible for the completion of the medical reports from the Compensation and Pension / Environmental Exposures and Employee and Occupational Health service.
  • The Compensation and Pension reports are provided to the Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) for determinations of service-connected disability and benefits.
  • The incumbent may also be assigned to perform other clinical duties as assigned within the service to include but not limited to evaluations for the Compensation and Pension and Environmental Exposure Health Programs and Employee and Occupational Health.
  • The Section Chief will directly oversee and delegate assignments to the Compensation and Pension and Environmental Exposures and Employee and Occupational Health program management and in this position, will be delegated to enhance the effective coordination of all administrative activities of Compensation and Pension and Environmental Exposures programs and Employee and Occupational Health.
  • The Section Chief would directly supervise the Compensation and Pension and Environmental Health and Employee and Occupational Health Clinicians.
  • The Chief of Primary Care Service at the Central Ohio VA Health Care System is composed of the following sections: Central Ohio VA Health Care System, the Zanesville Community Based Outpatient Clinic (ZCBOC), Grove City Community Based Outpatient Clinic (GCCBOC), Marion Community Based Outpatient Clinic, (MCBOC), Daniel L.
  • Kinnard Community Based Outpatient Clinic (NCBOC), and Delaware Community Based Outpatient Clinic (DCBOC).

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
