About the Role

The Pulmonary Doctor will provide specialized care in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with pulmonary diseases and conditions. The role involves both outpatient and inpatient services, including consultation and ongoing care for veterans with respiratory disorders.

What You'll Do

  • Duties include but not limited to: 1.
  • Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive pulmonary care to veterans diagnosed with respiratory conditions.
  • Diagnose and treat pulmonary diseases, including but not limited to, COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and lung cancer.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and bronchoscopy procedures.
  • Develop treatment plans based on the best available scientific evidence and clinical guidelines.
  • Conduct follow-up appointments and ongoing management of chronic respiratory conditions. 2.
  • Inpatient Services: Provide inpatient care in the ICU and general medical wards for patients with respiratory and related conditions, Participate in on-call duties and provide consultations to other services within the Robley Rex VA Medical Center.
  • Assist in the management of mechanically ventilated patients and participate in multidisciplinary rounds. 3.
  • Outpatient Services: Conduct outpatient clinics, including new patient evaluations and follow-up visits.
  • Educate patients and families on disease prevention, management, and treatment plans. 4.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including primary care physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in case conferences, departmental meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide advice and consultation to colleagues within the VA Medical Center and associated outpatient clinics. 5.
  • Research and Education: Engage in clinical research projects and contribute to the advancement of pulmonary medicine.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
