About the Role

The psychiatrist performs general psychiatric assessment and treatment within a multi-disciplinary team. The psychiatrist will work closely with their colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art mental health care. This position is primarily assigned to the Substance Abuse/PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, but the incumbent will provide psychiatric care to Veterans across the Medical Center.

What You'll Do

  • This vacancy will remain open until filled.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to: The psychiatrist will perform evaluations, diagnosis(es), treatments, medication management and preventions of mental health disorders.
  • Perform comprehensive examinations and assessments, determining diagnosis(es), and completing medical work-ups, including admissions and discharges.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, referring to other specialties or appropriate community resources.
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team and collaborates with providers across the Medical Center.
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation of patient care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in a timely manner.
  • Training regarding the use of CPRS will be provided by the VAMC.
  • All documentation shall be completed in accordance with VA policy and procedures.
  • Ensure accreditation requirements are met for all applicable survey and inspection processes to include, but are not limited to compliance with JCHACO, CARF, and OIG.
  • Follow all VA guidelines regarding infection control and safety.
  • Adhere to all quality performance measures.
  • Provide examinations/reviews as assigned to support Mental Health services.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
