About the Role
The Salt Lake City VA is currently looking for a Orthopedic Surgeon to work 20 hours per week. NOTE: The salary range advertised will be pro-rated based on the actual hours worked.
What You'll Do
- →Orthopedic surgeons within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical/non-surgical management of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.
- →They provide care to a diverse Veteran population of all ages for conditions ranging from service-connected injuries and degenerative diseases to congenital deformities, utilizing both operative and conservative treatment approaches.
- →Core Scope of Practice Under the VA's policies and in accordance with established medical staff by-laws, the orthopedic surgeon may: Joint Replacement and Reconstruction: Perform total joint arthroplasty of the hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow for qualifying Veterans, addressing both degenerative and traumatic pathology.
- →Trauma Surgery: Conduct operative and non-operative management of complex fractures and associated soft-tissue injuries in accordance with VA and ACS/AAOS guidelines.
- →Subspecialty Areas: Provide care in subspecialty areas including (but not limited to) pediatric orthopedics (when applicable), spine surgery, orthopedic oncology (bone and soft tissue tumors), hand/upper extremity surgery, and sports medicine as credentialed by the facility.
- →Non-operative Treatment: Manage musculoskeletal disorders with conservative measures such as bracing, casting, injections, and referrals for VA or community-based physical therapy/rehabilitative services.
- →Diagnostic Assessment: Order and interpret diagnostic imaging studies (e.g., X-rays, MRI, CT) and laboratory evaluations relevant to musculoskeletal conditions.
- →Participation in Multidisciplinary Care: Collaborate with primary care, rehabilitation, pain management, prosthetics, and mental health teams to deliver comprehensive Veteran-centered care.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
