About the Role
The Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr., VAMC in Memphis, TN is recruiting for a Hematology Oncology Physician to serve as a full-time Specialty Care physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Specialty Care, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards.
What You'll Do
- →General duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical practice, supervising and teaching fellows, residents and medical students in the specialties of Hematology-Oncology.
- →Responsible for providing consultation in Hematology-Oncology, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- →Share attending call responsibilities with Hematology-Oncology specialists in covering some nights, weekend and holiday calls as needed.
- →The physician will round with the team of fellow(s), resident(s), and medical student(s) as regards to inpatient settings.
- →Lead and manage the Hematology-Oncology team consisting of fellows, residents, medical students, Pharmacists, Mid-Level Providers, etc., while on inpatient service or in a clinical setting.
- →Administratively responsible to the Chief of Medicine.
- →Clinical oversight is provided by the collaborating physician, Section Chief, Hematology-Oncology.
- →The physician, as a member of the department, communicates with other healthcare providers to manage consults and additional services as required.
- →Recognizing patients appropriate for referral or consultation with the collaborating physician.
- →Consultations with collaborating physicians may occur through personal, telephone, or electronic media contact.
- →A physician co-signature of resident and student notes will be required for the admission history, physical examination and admission plan for new patients as well as daily plan care/progress note for established patients.
- →Discharge notes and discharge summaries will be electronically co-signed.
- →A discharge order may be written with the concurrence of the physician.
- →Clinical activities may include, but are not limited to, clinical assessment and evaluation - Inpatients and Outpatients.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- ✓The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
