About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Dermatology patient care at the SBYVAMC.
  • The physician will manage patients with ongoing medical conditions outpatient, in collaboration with other services of the SBYVAMC.
  • The incumbent is accountable to the Chief of Medicine Service assuring the most effective delivery of care.
  • Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties lists the major duties and responsibilities of the position: Current BLS required Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
  • Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care Procedural skills may include simple excision and repair, skin and nail biopsy, electro surgery basic cryosurgery Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management, such as: Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff.
  • Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.
  • The position requires possess or develop an understanding of the particular needs of these types of patients.
  • Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved.
  • Computer Security: Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
  • Protects the data from unauthorized release, from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
  • Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.
  • Uses word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
