Physician-Deputy Chief of Staff

About the Role
The Deputy Chief of Staff is a senior physician leader who supports the Chief of Staff in overseeing clinical operations, quality of care, and alignment with VA mission, policies, and strategic goals. The role combines direct clinical leadership with administrative and programmatic oversight across services and facilities. The Deputy Chief of Staff reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical and administrative advisor for the VA medical center.

- →Incumbent will have broad and overall responsibility for multi-service level organizational units and have full responsibility for clinical practice, program management, education, human resources management and supervision of those services.
- →Manages substantive parts of specialized, complex, professional services which significantly impact the care provided to Veterans.
- →Exercises administrative, programmatic, clinical and academic oversight of all assigned programs to ensure delivery of quality services in coordination with the Chief of Staff or ADPCS where appropriate.
- →Provides leadership and guidance on independent assessments and recommendations for policy, Ensures that programs, processes and procedures are in place to meet VHA performance measures and monitors.
- →Uses chart reviews and data analytic methods to improve performance and quality problems.
- →Directs patient care needs assessments; identifies gaps in services and supports strategic planning and program development to meet those needs.
- →Within the local planning process, develops short and long-term goals and objectives.
- →Develops program review and evaluation to ensure that the access, quality of care, customer service, patient satisfaction and utilization management, efficiency dimensions of care are continuously evaluated and improved.
- →Ensures compliances with all functions and standards of accreditation entities such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) that are applicable (assessment of the patient; care of the patient; patient rights, organizational ethics; continuum of care, etc.) Work Schedule: To be determined by supervisor
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
