What You'll Do

  • VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

  • Collaborates with executive leadership, clinical leaders, and administrative services including Fiscal, Human Resources, Quality Management, Logistics, and Business Office operations to achieve organizational goals.
  • Translates VHA national initiatives, VISN priorities, and regulatory requirements into local operational execution strategies.
  • Provides executive leadership to ensure alignment of clinical operations, patient safety, access, quality outcomes, workforce engagement, and Veteran-centered care delivery.
  • Advises the Medical Center Director on clinical operations, strategic initiatives, medical staff governance, and organizational risk.
  • Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance Presides over the organized Medical Staff and ensures consistent application of evidence-based clinical standards and professional practice expectations.
  • Oversees credentialing, privileging, FPPE/OPPE, peer review, and professional accountability processes in accordance with VHA policy, accreditation standards, and Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Ensures the appropriateness, timeliness, effectiveness, and quality of care delivered throughout the healthcare system.
  • Leads interdisciplinary quality improvement and patient safety initiatives focused on High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and continuous performance improvement.
  • Supports compliance with Joint Commission, OIG, CARF, and other regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • Research & Innovation Supports clinical research initiatives, ensuring ethical standards, regulatory compliance, and scientific integrity.
  • Promotes innovation and evidence-based practices that improve Veteran outcomes and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintains strong academic affiliations and partnerships supporting physician education, residency training, fellowship programs, and healthcare professional development.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
