About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • **This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 13th, 2026.
  • The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 19, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks.

  • The COM will be organized and dynamic, with the responsibility for overseeing the planning, developing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the Medical inpatient and subspecialty services for a large and complex VA health care system.
  • Acute inpatient services, including an emergency department are located at the main campus at the Sacramento VA Medical Center in Mather, California.
  • A 120-bed community living center (CLC) is located at the Martinez campus.
  • We also offer a continuum of outpatient Medical subspecialty services.
  • Services include: Allergy, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease/Infection Prevention, Nephrology, Home Based Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Pulmonology/Critical Care, Rheumatology and Sleep Medicine.
  • We are affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis Health (UCDH).
  • The selected candidate will participate in the supervision of UC Davis residents/fellows and medical students at the Sacramento VA Medical Center and will receive an academic appointment at a level commensurate with their academic accomplishments and experience.
  • The COM will also work with UC Davis teaching faculty to expand existing educational rotations for medical students and residents and will help develop new rotations within the VA Northern California HCS.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
