About the Role
The Salt Lake City VA is currently recruiting for a Physician - Care in the Community Section Chief.
What You'll Do
- →A VA Care in the Community Chief Medical Officer (CMO) holds executive responsibility for clinical strategy, quality assurance, and oversight of the providers that fall directly under the CITC CMO.
- →The CMO serves as a bridge between VA clinical care and VA community health initiatives, ensuring compliance with VA regulations (including VHA Directives), driving quality improvement aligned with VA strategic objectives, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to manage Veterans' population health, budgets, and patient outcomes.
- →Key Scope of Practice Areas: Clinical Leadership & Oversight: Defines the VA facility's clinical vision; develops and implements medical policies, protocols, and procedures in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) standards; oversees delivery of care in VA and VA Community Care Network (CCN) provider settings.
- →Quality & Safety Management: Directs patient care activities, monitors clinical performance indicators consistent with VA reporting measures (e.g., SAIL, HEDIS), and drafts/executes annual VA Quality, Safety and Risk Management Plans.
- →Medical Staff Supervision: Recruits, credentials, coaches, and evaluates medical staff-including physicians and advanced practice providers-according to VA credentialing and privileging processes (per VHA Handbook 1100.19).
- →Community Health Integration: Oversees VA community care and outreach initiatives, including Veteran outreach and population health programs; ensures alignment with Veteran satisfaction and community health needs as defined by VA policy.
- →Administrative Strategy: Manages clinical budgets in compliance with federal appropriations and VHA fiscal directives; ensures compliance with federal, state, and VA-specific regulations and acts as a key liaison to community, state, and federal health officials-and Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs).
- →Key Responsibilities & Functions: Strategic Planning: Leads development of clinical initiatives to improve care quality for Veterans, in alignment with VA strategic priorities and the VA integrated care model.
- →Care Integration: Facilitates communication and care coordination between VA primary care teams, VA specialty providers, VA home-based programs, and VA community care network providers.
- →Performance Evaluation: Reviews Veteran Experience Survey (VES) and SHEP data, manages complaints, and implements service improvement based on Veteran feedback.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
