About the Role
The Battle Creek VA Medical Center seeks a physician to provide integrated care in pain management and polytrauma rehabilitation. This role combines direct patient care with clinical supervision, program management, quality oversight, and education, ensuring coordinated, high-quality, veteran-centered services while supporting team development and clinical excellence.
What You'll Do

- →Staff Supervision - Directly supervises pain management providers and Physiatrists and may assist with hiring, onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, and performance evaluations. - Provides mentorship, clinical consultation, and resolves performance concerns.
- →Quality & Safety - Monitors quality indicators, patient outcomes, and participates in performance improvement initiatives related to pain management. - Ensures compliance with VA, Joint Commission, and federal regulations (including opioid safety initiatives).
- →Education & Training - Facilitates training for providers, residents, fellows, and other trainees on pain management best practices.
- →Program Development - Leads or participates in developing pain management policies, protocols, and integrated care pathways.
- →Staff Oversight - Supervises physicians and other providers in the polytrauma program. - Provides clinical guidance, manages scheduling, and ensures appropriate coverage.
- →Administrative Duties - Responsible for reporting outcomes, managing program resources, and ensuring compliance with VA directives specific to polytrauma. - Leads program planning, process improvement, and policy development.
- →Quality & Safety - Tracks patient outcomes, participates in quality assurance initiatives, and focuses on patient safety particular to the polytrauma population.
- →Education & Advocacy - Facilitates education for staff, patients, families, and the community about polytrauma care. - Advocates for patient needs and for adoption of best practices.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- ✓The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
