This position is located within Sterile Processing Service at the Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Affairs Loma Linda VA Medical Center. Sterile Processing Service is responsible for sterilization, preparation, and distribution of Reusable Medical Devices. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 24, 2026. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred every 2-weeks or as vacancies become available.
What You'll Do
- →The Medical Supply Technician is a full performance level position; In this position, the incumbent will accurately reprocess critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment, which includes but is not limited to the decontamination, scope reprocessing, preparation, sterilization, supply items, and case cart assembly for the medical center.
- →The term "supply item" refers to disposable and reusable items for surgical procedures and or patient care including instrumentation (scissors, forceps, retractors, etc.), reusable medical equipment (scopes, probes, etc.), surgical trays and sets and various other items that could be processed or assembled through the Preparation and Decontamination areas of Sterile Processing Service.
- →The incumbent receives guidance from the Lead MST and works with little or no supervision.
- →The MST follows manufacturer's instructions for use on all reuseable medical equipment.
- →Duties include but are not limited to the following: Inspects, prepares, assembles, and determines the correct method and packaging for sterilization such as but not limited to steam, VPro, and high-level disinfecting reprocessors; may prepare operating room case carts utilizing surgery schedule.
- →Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing, and scrubbing.
- →Inspects packages for indications of proper sterilization, assembles basic sets and trays used throughout the medical center including those used in the operating room.
- →Performs segments of work pertaining to the decontamination, sterilization, and inspection of reusable medical devices (RMD).
- →Completes segments of work pertaining to the assembly of basic sets and trays for use in the medical center.
- →Operates equipment involved in sterilization processes, scans Performs and documents daily operational checks, records for all sterilization equipment, and performs quality assurance checks.
- →May be required to prepare operating room case carts.
- →The incumbent uses knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) as required by this position to sterilize equipment and instruments.
- →The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RMD appropriate to this position.
- →The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RMD appropriate to this position.
