You will serve as a Maintenance Worker (Temporary) Cape Lookout National Seashore. This position is Multiple Schedules temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year with potential to be extended for an additional one year for a maximum of two years based on agency needs and potential funding. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 08/19/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
What You'll Do
- →Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
- →Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work.
- →Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches.
- →Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels.
- →Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles.
- →Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work.
- →Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.
- →Makes minor repairs as needed and refers problems to higher graded workers.
- →Area Information: Cape Lookout National Seashore (CALO) preserves 56 miles of North Carolina's Southern Outer Banks which includes a lighthouse, wild horses, and two historic villages.
- →Most of CALO is located on four barrier islands accessible only by boat.
- →Park offices, with beautiful waterfront views of Core sound, are located on Harkers Island which is connected to the mainland by roads and bridges.
- →Harkers Island and other nearby small surrounding communities have a variety of residences for rent or sale where basic services and elementary schools are available.
- →The historic town of Beaufort (population of 44,652 census 2020) and Morehead City (population of 331,449 census 2020) have all the necessary conveniences including a hospital, high schools, and a community college.
- →North Carolina's Crystal Coast is a popular tourist destination location offering a wide variety of year-round recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, swimming, and golfing.
Requirements
- ✓Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
