About the Role

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Facilities Management Division, Operations Branch, Roads and Grounds team. The ideal candidate will have experience to safely operate commercial lawn mowers on steep slopes, perform snow removal manually and using powered equipment and work as a trades helper (assisting craftsmen) in areas such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, etc.

What You'll Do

  • All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place.
  • Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.
  • What will I do in this position if hired?
  • In this position, you will serve as a Maintenance Worker (MVO) responsible for various groundskeeping and trade's helper duties.
  • Typical assignments include: Mowing grass, including on slopes of varying grades, using commercial mowing equipment.
  • Snow removal using shovels, snow blowers, and small tractors with salt spreaders and plow blades.
  • Performing trash removal and grounds maintenance using weed eaters and similar equipment.
  • Operating hand and power tools for overall maintenance and repair.
  • Loading and unloading supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and furniture.
  • Trades helper work assisting with minor plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work.
  • Cleaning work areas, tools, and machines (such as mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, and vehicles).
