About the Role

This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affajrs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area.

What You'll Do

  • The primary purpose of the position is to ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics.
  • Leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment.
  • Duties include but not limited to the following: Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Monitors status and progress of work, makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
  • Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly.
  • Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
  • Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
  • Supports managers in checking inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; assists managers and customers complete work orders for needed equipment.
  • Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled. resolving deviations when possible and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory Management Specialists.
  • Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.
  • Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
  • Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area.
