About the Role
This position is located within Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, National Biological and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan, KS. In this position, you will participate in various biosafety activities ensuring biocontainment units are in compliance with applicable regulations. In addition, you will provide subject matter expertise as part of a team inspecting and responding to issues related to the facilities associated with biocontainment.
What You'll Do
- →Participates in investigations of biocontainment system malfunction or failure, especially with regard to bio filters installed and tested by the Biosafety Technician Team.
- →Provides support in correcting any violation or unsafe condition(s), including support of plan and/or guideline development.
- →Oversees and maintains an inventory of supplies, i.e., chemical feedstock for gas decon and the HEPA filters, parts and equipment ensuring parts and materials are available for planned maintenance.
- →Participates in project planning by bringing an integrated understanding of biocontainment systems to contribute recommendations and alternatives to assess plans for feasibility of approach.
- →Conducts gaseous (or alternative) sterilization/decontamination of contaminated equipment or biocontainment facilities.
- →Develops gaseous or vaporous decontamination (aka “fumigation”) cycles for routinely expected conditions or unique needs based on risk assessment of the microorganism or situation in question.
- →Establishes strategic Biological Indicator (BI) and Chemical Integrator (CI) placement locations for gas fumigation procedures and establishes associated documentation.
Requirements
- ✓You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- ✓Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
