About the Role

This position is located in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT) serving as an IT Specialist (OS) for Connectivity and Collaboration Services, responsible for assisting with understanding new technologies, as well as design, implementation and continuing development of the VA enterprise systems within the MAE purview.

  • Major Duties: Responsible for setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of a system (e.g. installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; overseeing or conducting backup and recovery tasks.
  • Implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures).
  • Provides Technical support to customers who need assistance utilizing client-level hardware and software in accordance with established or approved organizational process components (i.e., Master Incident Management Plan, when applicable.
  • The incumbent performs work that involves planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and management of the systems environment in support of the organization's IT architecture and business needs.
  • Ensuring the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policy, principles and practices in the delivery of network services.
  • This includes all VA cyber security policy, Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) 3.0 (or newer), NIST controls, FISMA controls, and other relevant laws, policies and circulars that impact VA's cyber security posture.
  • Developing and/or refining Microsoft Office 365 architecture in order to ensure a positive end user experience.
  • Assisting Tier 3, with issues that require Tier 4 level expertise by providing timely and useful assistance pertaining to enterprise e-mail, messaging, collaboration, and mobile access tools.
  • Integration of new technologies with the Microsoft Office 365 environment.
  • Working with contractors on new requirements for new integrations with VA systems and cloud systems.
  • Taking lead on running pre-pilots, to ensure new technologies are functional as advertised.
  • Providing oversight, direction and support for VA's Enterprise client/server electronic-messaging systems.
