This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of Coast Survey (OCS), with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD; Durham, NH; Norfolk, VA; or Seattle, WA. What You'll Do
- →As an IT Specialist (Data Management), you will perform the following duties: Serve as a data manager developing and administering database management systems software for acquisition, storage and retrieval of hydrographic data for the National Ocean Service (NOS).
- →Analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements to develop data mining and data warehousing programs.
- →Evaluate and provide recommendations on new database technologies and architecture.
- →Conduct data extraction and statistical analysis utilizing computer programs to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of line program operations in meeting established goals and objectives for the Hydrographic Surveys Division (HSD).
- →Determine the most efficient strategies to collect quantitative information to make informed data-driven decisions and make recommendations based on findings in large data sets.
- →Develop and administer data standards and policies for security, storage and retrieval of information.
- →Advise on benefits of automation to improve efficiency of data manipulation and processing and the use of data visualization techniques to articulate findings.
- →Respond to requests for data and hydrographic survey information.
Requirements
- ✓This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS).
- ✓Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
- ✓The ZP-3 is equivalent to the GS-11/12.
- ✓Key Requirements: Applicants must be U.S.
- ✓Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
