The Assistant Secretary of War for Acquisition (ASW(A)) is responsible for advising the Secretary of War, Deputy Secretary of War and the USW(A&S) on matters relating to acquisition and the integration and protection of technology that enable capability for the warfighter. The ASW(A) is responsible for Department policies and procedures governing the Department's procurement and acquisition process.

- →Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Develop strategy, policy, and guidance for the cyber hardening of critical weapon systems.
- →Evaluate and assess component progress towards meeting cyber hardening goals and mitigating cyber vulnerabilities.
- →Maintain knowledge of technology and processes for securing platform/mission systems from cyber-attacks, increasing resiliency in contested cyberspace, and restoring functionality post-attack.
- →Lead the development of Congressional Reports focused on cybersecurity for Weapon Systems.
- →Prepare and review executive correspondence, Decision Memoranda, briefings, and other program documentation for senior leadership, the Office of the President, and other agencies.
