About the Role
This position is a bridge program designed for giving employees the opportunity to gain the competencies necessary to qualify for a position in professional Engineer 08XX occupational series. If selected, you will be placed on a Detail NTE 1 Year. Eligibility for this training opportunity is limited to current ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN GS-0802-11 OR 12 or ELECTRONICS ENGINEER GS-0856-11 OR 12 Please Note: There will be no change in your salary during the timeframe of this training opportunity
What You'll Do
- →You will be assigned to check work in process and prepare work packages for other lower grade engineers and technicians.
- →You will provide direction to lower grade Engineers to determine the type of material or equipment required and provide specifications.
- →You will direct and check the work of lower graded engineers and technicians on individual documents or services.
- →You will prepare technical reports, memoranda, and rough drafts of technical correspondence on subjects assigned by supervisor.
- →You will prepare engineering drawings, calculations, specifications or other engineering products in support of Navy or other customer requirements.
- →You will day-to-day provide management, control and direction of the non-nuclear work control and test program.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
