Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Chicago Field Office, Border Security Division, located in Chicago, IL.

What You'll Do

  • In this position you will serve as an Intelligence Research Specialist (IRS), applying a full range of expert intelligence knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide insights that warn of potential threats and assessments on possible outcomes in regard to national security.
  • This position starts at a salary of $83,482.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $108,533.00 (GS-11, Step 10) with promotion potential to $154,682.00 (GS-13 Step 10).

  • The Intelligence Research Specialist provides operational stakeholders with intelligence products that inform and enhance their ability to make strategic, operational, or tactical decisions in support of operations directed at threats to border security.
  • Duties and responsibilities include: Specializing as an all-source analyst, applying a full range of intelligence knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide insights that warn of potential threats and assessments on possible outcomes in regard to national security.
  • Providing the CBP Intelligence Enterprise (IE) and operational stakeholders with intelligence products that inform and enhance their ability to make strategic, operational, and tactical decisions in support of CBP operations directed at threats to border security.
  • Serving as an intermediate analyst in their Area of Responsibility (AOR), contributing to short- and long-term planning through in-depth research and analysis regarding threats to border security.
  • Developing subject matter expertise in assigned functional, geographic, and/or threat portfolios to produce comprehensive intelligence reports, threat assessments, and other critical intelligence products.
  • Reviewing, and evaluating a high volume of classified and sensitive intelligence information.
