The position serves as a Project Engineer at an assigned Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System, and serves as resident and program engineer consisting of the planning, design, and overseeing of major healthcare system projects; oversees Professional Architecture/Engineering (A/E) and Construction contracts to ensure the contractor is in compliance with all contractual requirements, healthcare regulations and codes, specifications and schedules are met.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but not limited to: Leads and manages complex healthcare engineering and construction projects, ensuring compliance with VA, federal, state, and industry standards.
- →Performs technical assessments of facility systems, including mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and utility infrastructure.
- →Interprets and applies healthcare regulatory requirements such as TJC, OSHA, NFPA, and VA directives to facility operations and project planning.
- →Reviews and evaluates engineering designs, specifications, cost estimates, project schedules, and contractor performance for accuracy and compliance.
- →Identifies system deficiencies, analyzes alternatives, and recommends engineering solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and reliability .Plans, prioritizes, and executes multiple projects simultaneously, managing scopes of work, budgets, resources, and contract documentation.
- →Leads interdisciplinary teams involving clinical stakeholders, engineering staff, planners, and external design and construction firms.
- →Conducts inspections of buildings, systems, and construction sites to ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety codes, and contract requirements.
- →Provides technical guidance and engineering expertise to leadership, clinical services, and project teams.
- →Prepares technical reports, briefings, analyses, and documentation to support decision-making, regulatory compliance, and project execution.
- →Coordinate with acquisition staff on procurement strategies, technical requirements, performance work statements, and market research.
- →Provide training and technical guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- →Participate in emergency management planning, response, and restoration of critical systems during utility interruptions or disasters.
- →Maintain current knowledge of emerging healthcare technology, engineering trends, and regulatory updates.
- →Support executive leadership with engineering input for facility risk assessments, capital investment proposals, and strategic decision-making.
