The position serves as a Projects Engineer at an assigned Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System. This position performs project planning, produces designs, manages designs, manages construction, and provides construction administration for Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases, including all areas and aspects at an assigned medical center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)'s.
What You'll Do
- →Serves as the Integrated Project Team (IPT) Chairperson, comprised of diverse and multi disciplined professional team members, consisting of internal and external stakeholders, and is a recognized expert in project management.
- →The position participates in planning deliberations and contributes significantly to the management decision-making process through teamwork, innovation, coordination, and collaboration with other senior members and stakeholders to ensure objectives are met toward meeting the healthcare system's overall strategic plan goals.
- →Assists in the determination of requirements for healthcare projects in relation to the needs of the Healthcare System, inclusive of the parent site, as well as off-site locations under the auspice of the Healthcare System, whether VA owned or leased.
- →Coordinates construction activities for a wide range and variety of interrelated systems and services.
- →Coordinates and monitors planning and answers design problems for the multi-disciplinary projects including all components of the project life cycle from initial planning and concept to design to construction, project completion and warranty periods.
- →Responsible for reviewing contractor submittals, change order requests, assuring project compliance with drawings and specifications, administering A/E and VA Headquarters review processes, assuring safety practices, and making sound engineering recommendations to appropriate leadership for action.
- →Responsible for managing and dealing with constantly changing priorities and deadlines based on engineering workload.
- →Utility and equipment failures must be addressed immediately for continuation of patient care and mission of the medical facility which often disrupts the intended workflow and takes priority for staff to address.
- →Performs scheduling and layout of construction operations, and inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.
- →The position plans specific objectives for the program, including required innovations and improvisations to patient care services and efficiencies.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:30am-4:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

- →Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
