About the Role
Ophthalmology Technicians in the VA Caribbean Care System (VACHS) support Ophthalmologist in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, follow up care and patient counseling. The Health Technician (Ophthalmology) performs a range of standard, complex diagnostic procedures, assists during clinic based surgical procedures, educates patients, assists with the education of medical students, residents and ophthalmic technician students.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Checks and performs calibration of technical ophthalmology screening instruments.
- →Serves as liaison between the Ophthalmologist, Optometrist, Eye Clinic Personnel, Licensed Opticians, Patients and VA System.
- →Receives the patient and prepares them the eye exam, including Chief Complaint, physical history reason for visit, pertinent signs and symptoms, current medication allergies, past ocular and general medical history, family history ocular and general medical history, review or Indication and allergies, including current ocular prescriptions and nonprescription medications.
- →Performs basic refractometry utilizing an auto refraction or habitual glass prescription in the phoropter.
- →Instills eye medications (eyedrops or ointments, including anesthetics, dye, dilating eyedrops, cycloplegic drops, or antibiotics) Measures intraocular pressure with standard techniques, including Goldmann application tonometry and Tonopen performs pachymetry 10 determine corneal thickness and manual or automated keratogenic and corneal topography detinning corneal curvature.
