About the Role

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex. The Smithsonian American Women's History Museum creates, educates, disseminates & amplifies the historical record of the accomplishments of American women. This position is located organizationally in Planning and Project Management, Smithonian American Women's History Museum (SAWHM), Under Secretary for Museums and Culture, Smithsonian Institution (SI).

What You'll Do

  • The Head of Project Management and Exhibitions manages key portions of the Museum's overall programs as SAWHM evolves into a physical museum.
  • In this position, you will: Supervise assigned staff; promote staff development and assesssment through the effective use of performance plans, individual development plans and training opportunites; oversee the work of staff and evaluate performance.
  • Develop, manage, and track project budgets, including contingencies.
  • Facilitate and communicate an agreed-upon budget, approaching procurement deadlines and potential conflicts.
  • Oversee exhibition project proposal processes, whereby projects are reviewed by the SAWHM Director and key senior staff (including incumbent) for mission alignment, audience and research goals.
  • Guide the decision making to approve or deny an exhibition for addition to exhibitions master schedule.
  • Schedule and implement exhibition projects.
  • Coordinate presentation, review and discussions of exhibitions and other projects with senior management for buy-in, approval and resource allocation.
  • Ensure that projects and exhibitions meet insitutional standards.
